DESCRIPTION:The life of the Japanese theatre group "Manjushaka" has deeply 
 fascinated the photographer Janak Kouzel during his multiple stays on the 
 island. Not only the mysterious performances\, but also their everyday lif
 e with the rehearsals aroused in him the interest to photographically reco
 rd this life in a photo story.\n\nWhat he captured behind the scenes will 
 be on view at the nEUROPA gallery from 7 December.\n\nBefore the vernissag
 e\, there will also be the opportunity to experience a performance by the 
 group live in the Galerie Arat at 6 pm.\n\nJanak Kouzel has already been a
 ctive in several projects of the association.

 erzgebirge. We walk from Altenberg over the woods and heights towards the 
 border\, look back at the mountain town and the Pinge - a mountain that wa
 s too strongly hollowed out by mining and therefore collapsed. Via Biwak-K
 uppe and Kohlhaukuppe we return to Geising. On the Kohlhaukuppe we can cli
 mb up the lookout tower and stop at the rustic garlic farm (but at our own
  expense). If there are winters here\, then up here. So dress warm and bri

 time in 2014 and was allowed to attend a performance of her theater group 
 "Manjushaka" a little later\, he was immediately enthusiastic. The mysteri
 ous atmosphere and the actors' slipping into various roles impressed him d
 eeply. On December 7\, 2018\, we will also be enchanted by one of the grou
 p's performances in the Arat Gallery.\n\nThe vernissage\, at which photos

DESCRIPTION:Last summer I was in India for a month. Before my trip I had ma
 ny fears. When you think of India\, there are many words like poverty\, ra
 pe\, filth\, disease...\n\nBut we must not forget that India is a huge cou
 ntry\, much bigger than all of Europe put together. It is a fact that Indi
 a has many shells. But don't forget the lights and I would like to give a 
 talk about that.\n\nPersonally I only know North India. Some cities I have
  visited are New Delhi\, Agra\, Jaipur (very typical)\, Hymalaya\, Vanaras
 i\, Pushkar...\n\nEvery city was colorful\, the people live there differen
 tly. The food tastes incredibly good\, the weather is really hot (always a
 round 30 degrees at night). In summer the monsoon can surprise you...\n\nW
 hen I was there\, I did a voluntary work and afterwards I travelled alone 
 for 10 days. Sometimes you can't know exactly if people want to help you o
 r just have any interests in you. But I had a very nice experience there.\
 n\nYou can't describe India\, you have to experience it yourself.\n\n&nbsp

DESCRIPTION:The Junge Ensemble Dresden has been touring Eastern European co
 untries since 2014. This summer the choir went to Georgia. Geographically 
 located in the Near East\, it is often referred to by its inhabitants as t
 he balcony of Europe. It can still be found in a fascinating balance betwe
 en insider tip and tourist magnet. The 35 singers travelled through a land
  of contrasts. Between the Caucasian high mountains and the Black Sea they
  experienced untouched nature\, numerous old monasteries\, sleepy villages
  and the tireless capital Tbilisi\, characterized by the uncomplicated coe
 xistence of tradition and modernity. Hospitality is at the top of the cult
 ural menu of the Georgians\, the feasts are legendary. The country is also
  famous for its unique musical tradition. Elisabeth Huhn will report on th

DESCRIPTION:How much Europe is in Dresden? How international is home? Where
  is it lived? Actors from several cultural institutions and associations h
 ave collected 18 "places" - historical\, contemporary and digital. The foc
 us was exemplarily on the Südvorstadt and Plauen\, a historically interna
 tional area. Visitors are invited to discover new aspects of their hometow
 n and meet new places. You can also help to collect the "places" yourself.
 \n\nIn the coming years\, the observation will be extended to the entire c
 ity area. The international "places" will be made visible online on an int
 eractive city map and networking will be initiated. (New) citizens are thu
 s encouraged to get involved in the city and the actors and foreign partne
 rs are brought into contact more easily. A creative potential for diverse

 m offers an approach as a new format for communication. Six young people b

 e takes place in Upper Lusatia.demoSlam was developed by cultural scientis
 t Evgeniya Sayko at the Hertie Innovationskolleg in the style of formats s

 ontext. Before the demoSlam\, the slammers deal with commonalities and dif
 ferences in their views in a three-day workshop. In pairs with controversi
 al opinions\, they present their very personal stories and experiences as 
 a result of this workshop.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nAs part of Sachsen im Dialog\, ci
 tizen journalists from all over Saxony also dealt with the transformation 
 processes of the past 30 years. Their first works will be on display at de
 moSlam in the form of an exhibition.\n\n\n\nAs part of the project Sachsen
  im Dialog. This is funded by the Robert Bosch Stiftung\, the federal prog
 ram MITEINANDER REDEN and within the framework of the funding program Revo

SUMMARY:"Что делать?" - Lenin between hop and pop
DESCRIPTION:"I can't walk past any Lenin without taking a picture." This is
  what the Polish writer Andrzej Stasiuk writes in his novel "The East". An
 d so it is today - with some historical distance - for many who were born 
 in the countries of the Eastern Bloc between the war and the fall of the W
 all. At the time when socialism still existed in reality\, the figure of L
 enin was omnipresent. He was simply there\, as it seemed: "always". It was
  easy to ignore him. But\, Stasiuk asks himself: "Haven't I noticed the sh
 adow in which we lived?"\n\nThe association Kultur Aktiv takes the upcomin
 g 150th birthday of Lenin as an occasion for an exhibition\, in which very
  different approaches to the handling of the preserved Lenin statues are s
 hown. The canon of photographic works on display ranges from the classic L
 enin Museum in his native Ulyanovsk\, to parks for Soviet sculptures in Ru
 ssia\, Ukraine\, Hungary and Lithuania\, to a series on "Leninopad"\, the 
 fall of the Lenin monuments in Ukraine. In addition\, various positions on
  the history of the Dresden Lenin monument will be shown together for the 
 first time. But why do we need an exhibition on Lenin today?\n\nAs leader 
 of the October Revolution and founder of the Soviet Union\, Lenin is one o
 f the most formative political figures of the 20th century. Since Stalin w
 as assigned sole responsibility for the Soviet repressive system\, the pol
 itical purges\, the gulag's\, the millions of dead after his death\, Lenin
  could be elevated to an "icon" of the communist world system. Everywhere 
 in the Soviet Union and in the countries of the Eastern Bloc thousands of 
 statues of the communist revolutionary leader were created.\n\nWith the co
 llapse of socialism\, now 30 years ago\, the statues of Lenin disappeared 
 from public space in almost all countries of the former Eastern Bloc. With
  the collapse of the Soviet Union\, this process continued with the "decom
 munization" in the republics that regained their independence. Only in Rus
 sia\, Belarus and Transnistria did the Lenin monuments remain largely inta
 ct.\n\nWith the same vehemence and forgetfulness of history as Lenin was o
 nce glorified\, people now tried to get rid of his memory. His monuments w
 ere lifted from their pedestals or toppled. Then they were to disappear qu
 ickly\, were smashed\, buried or sold. But can history and memory be smash
 ed\, buried or sold?\n\nBetween "hop" - the suppression or forgetting of h
 istory - and "pop" - the renewed glorification of the figure of Lenin - th
 e historical distance today offers various possibilities for dealing with 
 his work from new perspectives. "Что делать?" - "What to do?" The
  way its monuments are treated can also be reassessed with the historical 
 knowledge gained in recent decades.\n\nWith photos by Niels Ackermann (CH)
 \, Aleksandr Sinelnikov (UA)\, Elena Pagel (RU/D)\, Matthias Rietschel (D)
 \, Matthias Schumann (D)\, Lothar Sprenger (D) and Jan Oelker (D)\, who cu
 rated the exhibition\, as well as documentations of two projects\, initiat
 ed by the Munich sculptor and media artist Rudolf Herz (D) with the Lenin 
 monument from Wiener Platz in Dresden\, this exhibition provides a visual 
 plea for a differentiated examination of Lenin's historical figure - neith

DESCRIPTION:Art in public space in Prague after 1989\nHow has public art de
 veloped in the Czech capital after the fall of the Iron Curtain? What are 
 the most interesting sculptures\, monuments and installations? Why do we f
 ind numerous works somewhere and none of them in other places? Who were th
 eir initiators during almost thirty years when Prague did not have the str
 ategic support and policy of public art?\n\nThe Prague sculptor and visual
  artist Petra Vlachynská has dealt with this question extensively in rece
 nt years. The exhibition\, based on her doctoral thesis\, offers an insigh
 t into the systematically mapped and documented work. Let's take a look to

 v\n\nThousands of kilometres from Moscow\, the wild sound of Yakutian punk
  is born amidst icy darkness. Here\, in the largest and coldest region of 
 Russia\, where winter temperatures can drop to -60 degrees Celsius\, rocke
 rs write completely independent music.\n\nThe history of the Yunost Severa
  (Youth of the North) association began with self-organisation in 2009\, w
 ith the members' desire to make the music they like themselves. They do no
 t position themselves as a label in the conventional sense. Rather\, they 
 see themselves as a group of friends united by the common goal of being cr
 eative. No more than 30 people make up the scene\, and they change positio
 ns in more than a dozen bands.\n\nThroughout their time here\, bands have 
 emerged that have become cult on the local stage\, and some of them have s
 uccessfully toured outside the republic. The music they write draws its in
 spiration from the remoteness of the region and the rich indigenous cultur
 e. Only rarely do their lyrics contain angry rants or calls for protest: Y
 unost Severa does not tend to make political statements. Instead\, her car
 efree\, funny or seemingly meaningless words offer a kind of liberation.\n

 thorities\, to admiration of the courage\, determination and commitment of
  the large number of diverse people\, united in the goal of achieving free
 dom." - Excerpt from an appeal to artists and designers\n\nThe Belarusian 
 presidential elections in August 2020 made it obvious that after 26 years 
 under Lukashenko's reign\, there is discontent in the country. Only throug
 h massive electoral fraud was the long-term president able to have himself
  declared the winner again. He had obviously underestimated his female opp
 onent\, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya. Nationwide demonstrations and strikes fo
 llowed. Unlike in previous elections\, the protests were much more widespr
 ead - students\, doctors\, pensioners\, invalids took part. The song "Pere
 men!" (Change) by the 1980s Soviet band Kino became the movement's secret 
 anthem. The reaction of the authorities was brute force and mass arrests. 
 Several people were killed. Opposition members and demonstrators had to fl
 ee the country. But even this has not silenced the call for freedom.\n\nTh
 e exhibited protest posters and photographs by more than 20 artists and ph
 otographers from Belarus provide a visual insight into the events of the p

DESCRIPTION:With this performance\, three Ukrainian activists - the writers
  Iryna Fingerova and Kseniya Fuchs and the TV journalist Tanya Ivanchenko 
 - wanted to address the complex nature of censorship. What is behind censo
 rship? What motivations and fears are associated with it? What neurotic di
 sorders and consequences follow when we are unable to express ourselves fr
 eely? The founder and singer of the ethno-jazz band LELÉKA Viktoria Lelé
 ka and the drummer Jakob Hegner provided the musical accompaniment. Throug
 h visualisations\, music and lyrics\, the artists depicted how social inst
 itutions and expectations censor our thoughts and how art gives these thou
 ghts free rein.\nIn a world where one in five people suffers from a mental
  disorder\, literature and art are as important in combating existential c
 rises as regular medication. Among other things\, the artists wanted to re
 member Ukrainian and Belarusian political prisoners and show that there ar
 e living people behind the names.\n\nAnother important actor in this perfo
 rmance is the space in which it takes place - the Bautzner Straße Dresden
  memorial. During the time of the SED dictatorship\, the grounds of the St
 ate Security were the site of a comprehensive repressive apparatus\, respo
 nsible for political persecution\, imprisonment and psychological torture.
  A depressing testimony to the lack of freedom in the GDR at the time and 
 the historical site that today stands as a symbol for overcoming the dicta
 torship.\n\nAn event in cooperation with the Bautzner Straße Dresden Memo
 rial and Kultur Aktiv e.V. The digital broadcast is made possible by the p

 presidential elections in August 2020 made it obvious that after 26 years 
 under Lukashenko's reign\, there is discontent in the country. Only throug
 h massive electoral fraud was the long-term president able to have himself
  declared the winner again. He had obviously underestimated his female opp
 onent\, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya. Nationwide demonstrations and strikes fo
 llowed. Unlike in previous elections\, the protests were much more widespr
 ead - students\, doctors\, pensioners\, invalids took part. The song "Pere
 men!" (Change) by the 1980s Soviet band Kino became the movement's secret 
 anthem. The reaction of the authorities was brute force and mass arrests. 
 Several people were killed. Opposition members and demonstrators had to fl
 ee the country. But even this has not silenced the call for freedom.\n\nTh
 e exhibited protest posters and photographs by more than 20 artists and ph
 otographers from Belarus provide a visual insight into the events of the p

DESCRIPTION:An interactive artistic holiday project to jointly design a mur
 al for Moritzburg.\n\n\nEach participant has the opportunity to sculpt a s
 mall fireclay plate. The artists begin the working process with questions 
 about the paradisiacal view of the world. The aim is to exchange visions a
 nd alternatives for the future during the modelling process. The process i
 s accompanied by the artists both professionally and artistically in such 
 a way that everyone has the opportunity to make their ideas visible in the
  material. In order to create a mural from the fireclay reliefs\, each par
 ticipant will take photos of his or her own designed panel under the guida
 nce or with the help of the artists. These photos are then digitally proce
 ssed and printed on aluminium composite panels. The graphic design include
 s a new monochrome colour scheme\, a reduction to contrast and an enlargem
 ent. In this way we strengthen the individual statements. The children and
  young people are also actively involved in this part of the project.\n\nT
 imes\nMonday - Friday: 10:00 - 16:00\n\nParticipation\nAge: 6 to 17 years\
 , in groups as well as individually\nParticipation is free of charge.\nTra
 vel costs can be covered (in part) after consultation.\n\nFinal presentati

 dom." - Excerpt from an appeal to artists and designers\n\nThe Belarusian 
 presidential elections in August 2020 made it obvious that after 26 years 
 under Lukashenko's reign\, there is discontent in the country. Only throug
 h massive electoral fraud was the long-term president able to have himself
  declared the winner again. He had obviously underestimated his female opp
 onent\, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya. Nationwide demonstrations and strikes fo
 llowed. Unlike in previous elections\, the protests were much more widespr
 ead - students\, doctors\, pensioners\, invalids took part. The song "Pere
 men!" (Change) by the 1980s Soviet band Kino became the movement's secret 
 anthem. The reaction of the authorities was brute force and mass arrests. 
 Several people were killed. Opposition members and demonstrators had to fl
 ee the country. But even this has not silenced the call for freedom.\n\nTh
 e exhibited protest posters and photographs by more than 20 artists and ph
 otographers from Belarus provide a visual insight into the events of the p

SUMMARY:Štěpán Bartoš – Unsichtbare Synagogen
DESCRIPTION:Of the numerous synagogues that once stood in what is now the C
 zech Republic\, a large number have disappeared from the face of the earth
  since the 1940s. The number of meeting places of Jewish communities perma
 nently decreased due to looting\, disinterest and conversions during both 
 nationalism and communism. In areas where the German inhabitants were expe
 lled and the original Jewish communities gave in\, entire urban units were
  redeveloped and converted.  The history of the buildings from this site 
 was forgotten\, but Štěpán Bartoš\, a photographer working in Pardubic
 e\, has visited over 150 former synagogue sites and recorded the gaps phot
 ographically.\n\nThe work so far covers Bohemia. The Moravian part will fo
 llow in 2022. In addition to a website depicting all the photographed site
 s\, several photo exhibitions with a selection of the sites will be presen
 ted in the Czech Republic and Germany. For the exhibition objects\, the su
 rface of the photographs will be mechanically or thermally processed to su
 ggest the outlines of the synagogues that previously stood there.\n\nMore
