DESCRIPTION:The nEUROPA Gallery is hitting the road again. Join us for the 
 third year running at the Czech Woodstock. The TrutnOFF Open Air Festival
  takes runs from 13 to 16 August 2026 in Bojiště Nature Park in Trutnov\
 , at the foot of the Krkonoše Mountains. We’re presenting the exhibitio
 n ‘Unter:Druck’. Whilst there\, you’ll have the chance to meet nEURO
 PA curator Jan Oelker.\n\n‘Unter:Druck’ – Parties\, Punk and Protest
  in East Berlin\n\nThe term ‘Unter:Druck’ has a double meaning in the 
 German language. On the one hand\, it means ‘under pressure’ and\, on 
 the other\, ‘negative pressure’.\n\nThe pressure exerted on creative a
 rtists by the repressive system of the GDR unleashed enormous creativity. 
 Art avoided state control by seeking refuge in niches and channelled its e
 nergy into flats\, private properties\, churches or cellars – the true u
 nderground.\n\nMichael Biedowicz war damals als fotografischer Autodidakt 
 Teil dieser Szene und mit Künstler:innen und Musiker:innen befreundet. Se
 ine Fotos spiegeln das Lebensgefühl in den Nischen des Berliner Ostens wi
 der. Sie entstanden bei Partys\, Lesungen oder Punk-Konzerten\, die den N
 ährboden für Protest und Gegenkultur boten.
