The feedback and encouragement of the participants at Treffpunkt ostZONE. Remembering and Shaping<\/a> was great. The diversity of voices in the project is also evident in the feedback. Time and again, it becomes apparent how biographical work with and through art strengthens social cohesion in Dresden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are pleased to be able to reproduce some of the participants’ voices on the project here.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

I was lucky enough to spend the same number of years, 30 years, in my homeland in Kazakhstan and in my historical homeland, in Germany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My interest in the GDR has existed since my childhood, because I am of German nationality. And because I learned German at school and at college.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Elena Pagel invited me to the art project, I met people from all over planet Earth. I especially enjoyed the open doors in the many studios of talented female artists from Dresden. In their studios and workshops, they told us about their creative lives and working styles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Verena B\u00f6ll had a very interesting discussion with us and I invited many of my Russian-speaking friends. We discussed different topic of the GDR and shared nice memories. I have been to the GDR twice and I will never forget the atmosphere. And I also watched extra many movies about the GDR. In the project we remembered performances of Puhdys and We from the GDR. My older brother was a journalist. He worked as a tour guide in the GDR. I also went on many bus trips with him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I and my friends who attended the events are dreaming of new projects.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Hello friends,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

in collaboration with Dr. Verena Boll, we participated in the project Treffpunkt ostZONE, a forum for discussion and dialogue, as former workers of the two-state agreement GDR and Vietnam. I am very happy to participate and share the years of life that the German people today have largely forgotten or have not fully understood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On October 1, 2021, at Strehlener Str. 10, 01069 Dresden, we discussed the topic “GDR tailoring and today” with the artist Xenia Gorodnia. We also brought two other former Vietnamese textile workers in East Germany to the event and together we told our story. How we could fulfill wishes by working overtime cutting jeans like Levis, Wrangler, Montana. And we could see the art, the creative art with the old Veritas sewing machine that we loved before, when the artist painted a picture with it. In the afternoon we toured the neighborhood and the old buildings. We were able to visit two Vietnamese offices in one of the buildings: the Dresden Association of Vietnamese and the Tam Linh Buddhist Spiritual Association. Through the meeting, the inclusive life of the immigrant community was seen and the artist Xenia recorded the impressions of our meeting and visits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On October 2 and October 9, 2021 we met at Oskarstr. 1, 01219 Dresden. We had the opportunity to discuss with the artists Janina Kracht and Xenia Gorodnia about the history of art in relation to the GDR. This exchange about the past and present with participants from other cultures and generations was very rewarding and effective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Especially on October 23 at the Kulturpalast, Schlossstr 2, 01067 Dresden, in the hall of the library, we could openly express our feelings and talk about life and politics behind the wall and after the fall of the wall. We were able to answer the questions of the audience in detail and openly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our present, well-integrated life is a process of decades of experience. These experiences can become part of the history of West Germany through East German diaries and memories. So that each of us, especially the younger generation, will not forget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For us, the historical story of immigration is linked to labor. Cooperation at work contributed decisively to the multicultural life of today’s Germany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In my life, I didn’t need two faces. That changed one day in September 2021. At the biography art workshop, I just wanted to watch the people present create, until I was encouraged by Ms. Wagner to make something out of paper. I gladly took up her idea of creating a mask. After she wrapped me, actually my head, I began to further shape the material. That’s just the way I am.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
