\u201cThere is a story in every bird,\u201d says Olga. \u201cIt’s our soul that we send on a journey.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They started with fish around two years ago. Fish are on the move, but silent. The first sewing series was created. \u201cThat’s how we felt when we came to Germany.\u201d Without language skills, you feel like a fish, mute and constantly on the move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the first courses and encounters came the courage to sing again, to see and show hope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBirds sing, they bring hope, they are all beautiful and they all fly in the same air that we breathe. There is no difference.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Yuliya and Olga, birds symbolize freedom, children and hope. \u201cThe storks also come back, bringing new hope and new life. On wide wings they find freedom and we then feel it for our souls too.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The stork is known as a power animal that symbolizes purity, motherhood, new beginnings and growth. However, compared to other birds, the stork has no cry or call. The stork gives nature a high value. \u201cWhen we hang birds on the door, they bring good luck and health to those who live there.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And so blue-checkered, pink-and-white-striped, brown or green fabric wings flap so vigorously \u201cand sing of hope, spring and happiness. And because we are all different, there are birds made of denim, shirt fabric, soft fabrics and coarsely woven ones.\u201d It takes about half an hour to sew a bird and if it weren’t for the stories, it would hardly be worth mentioning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But with time, the strength returns. That’s why the women are now thinking about how best to sew a horse, their symbol of strength, wild elegance and rhythm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And while the hands embroider, sew, guide needle and thread, you can talk to each other so wonderfully. Thoughts and words permeate every fiber, weaving the individual pieces of fabric into a tapestry of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Olga is a pediatrician, Yuliya is a teacher at the Waldorf School. Together with five to ten other women, they meet every Wednesday evening in the sewing caf\u00e9 on Bautzner Stra\u00dfe.
