“Medea’s Daughters – Civil Engagement for the Emancipation of Georgia”
The European dream of many Georgians is currently being destroyed by the ‘Georgian Dream’, which is increasingly turning out to be a Russian nightmare. Society is divided and the opposition is being suppressed. Georgia’s emancipation from its Soviet legacy is currently experiencing a severe setback.
Young people in particular are unwilling to accept this. Many are leaving the country. Others are getting involved in a variety of ways to defy the agony in the country and make everyday life in their communities more liveable through culture, education and creativity.
Jan Oelker reports on his experiences and some projects in which people are getting involved in civil society despite state restrictions, thus giving rise to a glimmer of hope that Georgian society will return to a liberal, humanitarian and self-determined course.
All Winterreisen dates can be found in the programme overview.
The project is funded by the State Ministry for Social Affairs and Social Cohesion. This measure is co-financed with tax revenue based on the budget approved by the Saxon State Parliament as part of the »Wir für Sachsen« funding programme.
