Naples

Friederike Fischer and Michael Merkel take us to the Gulf of Naples, a region where volcanoes steam, lemons scent the air, scooters screech and Diego Maradona watches over everything like a street saint.

They spent two weeks exploring the Gulf of Naples, sampling a variety of street food, hiking along the spectacular Amalfi Coast, climbing Mount Vesuvius and immersing themselves in the green interior of the island of Ischia. Among narrow streets, colourful houses and countless pizzerias, they felt the Neapolitans’ joie de vivre and love for their city.

Diego Maradona is omnipresent – from stadium visits to the many murals to street altars – and shapes the city like no other. Added to this are culinary discoveries, encounters with the everyday life of the Neapolitans and lots of bizarre observations that could only happen on this trip.
