On Thursday, 06.04.2023, the theatre group “ellemonh” will be our guests at Café Kulturschock!
Although the theatre director and Ukrainian-born Anna Yaryga has been living in Germany for 28 years, the subject of war and its consequences has never left her. In her works, she therefore repeatedly deals with the wounds inflicted on people by an inferno. In the play CALDERA (Volcanic Crater), Anna Yaryga interweaves her own family history with the fates of Ukrainian women who fled the country after the outbreak of war.
It is about hurt and pain, displacement and loss, fear and hatred. But also about the strength that grows out of crises. Where do the women get the strength to get up again after terrible blows of fate and to start anew? Where do they draw the courage to look forward?

Café Kulturschock
Culture shocks in everyday life. To understand, you need understanding.
Again and again, Ukrainians come to us looking for a place where they can talk undisturbed and also learn to talk about and understand things that seem to be quite different in others. Or simply to try out how to express something in German.
On Thursdays – every two weeks – 18.00 – Open meeting – chat, drink coffee, play, get creative and and and …
From March 2023, we therefore invite you to Café Kulturschock. The open meetings are to be based entirely on your ideas and wishes! Whether it’s a workshop, games evening, coffee round, theme café or simply a place for chattering and get to know new people.
Open gallery – what is it?
In our gallery Galerie nEUROPA we not only present exhibitions of contemporary photographers with a connection to Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, but the space is also open for open meetings, coffee rounds, games evenings, workshops, seminars, think tanks, and so on.
Here you can find all other dates and event formats of our Open Gallery.
