Damavand and Elbrus – adventure trips to two volcanoes

For years, Marcus Oertel from Dresden has been drawn to the high mountains of the world. In 2025, he and his friends climbed the 5,610-metre-high Damavand in Iran and the 5,642-metre-high Elbrus in Russia. Both mountains have several parallels: not only are they almost the same height, but they are also the highest peaks in their respective countries. Climbing them requires not only foregoing the solid infrastructure we are familiar with in the Alps, but also a certain willingness to take risks.
