In their case, when the son gave his father a trip, it meant a journey on the Hurtigruten of the rails, Switzerland’s most beautiful railway lines. With the legendary trains of the Rhaetian Railway on the Bernina and Glacier Express routes, the two enjoy alpinism on rails.

From tranquil Chur, they travel on the Bernina Express along what is perhaps the most impressive railway line in the world in terms of engineering and scenery, following mountain rivers, crossing adventurous aqueducts, through countless tunnels and uphill sections, up to over 2,200 metres. In the panorama car, the view to the side and above is unobstructed, offering a view of the azure blue Alpine sky and the nearest peak.

Just a moment ago in the snow, both find themselves in summery Tirano a little later. The journey over the Brusio circular viaduct, at the latest, explains why this engineering feat is rightly considered part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

You visit the idyllic ski and health resort of Arosa on Lake Obersee, with its magnificent view of the surrounding panorama of snow-covered Alpine peaks, and climb from fashionable Zermatt by cog railway to the Gornergrat, from where you can enjoy a magnificent view of the mighty Matterhorn and watch skiers making their way down the slopes.
