Insight into the Open Gallery: chat, get creative together and create beautiful things, e.g. at the self-organised sewing café – every Wednesday, from 6:30 p.m.

Dear cultural activists,

in our gallery Galerie nEUROPA we not only present exhibitions of contemporary photographers with a connection to Eastern and South Eastern Europe – the space is also open for your ideas, workshops, seminars, meetings, coffee rounds, game evenings and much more! For more than a year, various events have been taking place here under the motto Open Gallery.

Two Ukrainians have been with us from the beginning: Art therapist Victoria Borysiuk offers the workshop Art and Meditation once a week. Here you learn how intuitive drawing, dot painting or mandalas help you to relax and relieve stress. Yuliya Firsova, a teacher and storyteller, also invites people to a weekly sewing café. It started as a meeting place for women, girls and grandmothers from Ukraine, who worked out their experiences, wishes and wounds in creative handicrafts to create a number of patchwork motifs – sewn pictures. The sewing café has also been on tour, e.g. at the Neustadt Spring on the main street or at the farm festival in Mahlitzsch. With an eye on Christmas, the women have recently started sewing small animals, figures, dolls and anything else their imagination can come up with from fabric scraps. The topics may change, but this impression – as Yuliya aptly describes it – remains: “The most important thing is that we have created a place in the Open Gallery where women can unwind, talk, sing, share their problems, experience support and warmth. We haven’t just built houses out of fabric, we’ve created a warm home for the soul.”

Would you like to organise your own event at the Open Gallery? Or do you know someone who has an idea and just needs a suitable venue? Then contact us (info@kulturaktiv.org / 0351 811 37 55) or drop by the office directly!

Many greetings from Dresden Neustadt!
