Georgia – Ascent of Kazbek (5,047 m)

Kazbek is Georgia’s third highest mountain and a stately five-thousand-meter peak in the Great Caucasus on the border with Russia. It enjoys great popularity among climbers from very different countries. Technically not too difficult, an ascent nevertheless demands a lot from everyone: fitness and high-altitude touring skills, sufficient acclimatization and the renunciation of the usual tourist infrastructure of European conditions. Marcus Oertel climbed the Kazbek in September 2022 and will tell, among other things, how he met the Soviet singer Vladimir Vysozki and the current Polish ambassador on the Kazbek.
