Winterreisen. 11 weeks. 11 lectures. At the beginning of the year, every week Tuesday in the Veränderbar will be a travel lecture. Program overview
Moldova’s fifth element – a (wine) discovery trip in one of the last blank spots of Europe
This Winterreisen-evening takes us to a country that – if known at all – is mainly perceived through negative headlines such as the poorhouse of Europe or as a corrupt “country without parents”. Yet Moldova, whose correct name is the Republic of Moldova, has much more to offer… with the breakaway region of Transnistria, a de facto independent state within a state, a music enthusiast who realises his opera dreams in the Moldovan pampas, a minority of Turkic origin who insist on preserving their identity but then prefer to teach the Russian language in school. But above all, Moldova is a wine country with the world’s largest vineyard area per capita, the largest wine cellars in the world and a young winemaker scene that is eager to experiment. Together with his Viennese colleague Stefan, Matthias Schumann set out on a wine mission to discover the secrets of the Moldovan way of life.
