“Dresden spricht…” Workshops, guided tours, writing and printing workshops under the motto “Language and writing. Dresden speaks many languages”

Communication with a difference

Get to know the everyday life of blind people in this workshop and test your sense of touch!

Feel language – test your sense of touch

At the beginning of the 19th century, the Frenchman Louis Braille invented Braille, which is used internationally today. It consists of 64 characters. Up to six dots are punched onto paper in two vertical rows in different arrangements, which can then be felt. Because the so-called 6-dot cell only allows a limited number of different arrangements of dots, Braille does not use upper and lower case letters.

Diverse society – diverse communication

Our society is diverse – also in terms of language. By being open to other forms of communication, we show our interest in our fellow human beings and their needs. For many of us, verbal language is an indispensable means of communicating with others, obtaining information and sharing our own views. For people with hearing or visual impairments, spoken language is supplemented by other forms of communication.
