Rita Geißler

The painter and graphic artist Rita Geißler was born in Dresden in 1961. From 1982 to 1989 she studied graphics/painting with Prof. Gerhard Kettner at the Dresden University of Fine Arts. Her diploma thesis “Etchings on Poems by Anna Akhmatova” was awarded the prize for the most beautiful book of the year at the Leipzig Book Fair in 1989.

Rita Geißler’s prints are very reduced. Every stroke in them is essential and part of the overall composition. Watercolours, gouaches, pastels and drawings serve as models and are created directly in nature. Some of these works also have a tendency towards graphic abstraction and reduction. In her graphic works, she tries to trace laws and rhythms that underlie everything natural and human in equal measure.

Rita Geißler lives and works in Dresden and has been a member of the Saxon Artists’ Association since 1990. In 2008 she received the Otto Niemeyer-Holstein scholarship. Working scholarships from the city of Dresden took the artist to the Litografiska Akademin Tidaholm, Sweden, in 2010 and 2014 to the Ohio Arts Council, Cleveland/USA. In 2019, she participated in the International Art Festival in Batumi/Georgia and received the Canaletto Prize Kultur.Synchron Dresden. She regularly participates in national and international exhibitions.
