The Assembly of Friendship

Veranstaltungen in Dresden

Janine Mackenroth – „I Love Women In Art“

* 1989 in Munich, Germany

Janine Mackenroth’s work of art deals with equality and sustainability. The material of biosourced nail polish describes a cycle of works from 2015 on until today, that can also be understood as a commentary on a still male-dominated (art) world. Since 2018 she investigates the human smell producing scent installations. Her current sculptures feature materials such as shredded EURO banknotes from the Deutsche Bundesbank. Since 2022 she produces her own biosourced nail polish, that she also uses on her paintings and are available at her current ‘BABYLONIAN GAZE’ tour through Europe. Mackenroth turns icons, changes their form and function, and processes them into components of a new and if possible better and more sustainable world.

Mackenroth’s works can be seen in museums, galleries and collections, including the Museum für Brot und Kunst in Ulm in summer of 2022, the NAILS projectroom in Düsseldorf or the collection of the Deutscher Bundestag.

In 2020 together with Bianca Kennedy she co-published “I Love Women in Art” about 100 artworks by women artists in Germany, on the 100th anniversary of women at German art academies. Since 2021, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection, Mackenroth has been working on a feasibility test of her innovation for sustainable art materials. In 2022 the artist started working with 100 % biosourced paint from potatoes in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute in Potsdam.

Janine Mackenroth is a member of the SALOON Berlin.

Artist Talk – Art in public spaces and the impact on civil society

David Adam
David Adam was born in 1970 in Dresden in the former GDR. In his early photographic works, he documents the pre-transition events from the midst of social upheaval, not infrequently exposing himself to the risk of state violence. After the fall of the Wall, he completed his art studies in the capital of Saxony and initially turned his back on it. The ambivalent relationship to the city of his birth finally prompted him to return.

With the appearance of the resentment movement Pegida in 2014, he turns to the most direct of all art forms. With actions in public space, he comments on the social upheavals and traces of the new right, humorously and at the same time uncompromisingly. As the art figure Dada Vadim he thematizes the role of the artist as the “man of pain” of society.

Janina Santamarina
“There are many naked women on the streets of Hamburg. They have very nice figures, they are very decorative, very sexy and obedient. When I see them I wonder: Aren´t they tired of dancing naked all day? Don´t they feel cold? Isn´t it boring just being beautiful and naked? What is bothering me the most is that they aren´t even naked. All six that I have „cooperated“ with have sex chracteristics of a Barbie dolls: Big tits, big butt, no Vulva. I‘m asking myself: didn´t male sculptors know about the anatomy? Or did they just ignore it, because it was considered dirty, complicated or not appropriate? Not even a little stroke of labias is visible. If you dont have genitals, can you be naked?

I´m questioning the view of male german sculptors and also the practice of male politicians in buying these sculptures and putting them in public places. WHY?”

Janina Santamarina is a member of the SALOON Hamburg.

Sunny Pfalzer
Sunny Pfalzer is a performance artist, a Surfer Boy, a Go-Go-Girl and a Slug. They love to cuddle on the street. Whether they perform on stage, sew textile sculptures, hold a camera, or choreograph for public spaces, their approach is always bodily and felt. Through protest methodologies, poetry and pop culture, Sunny depicts how body language can construct statements. Facilitating workshops and collaborating is an integral part of Sunny’s processes. Work ethics and friendship underlie Sunny’s practice. Recent presentations include, KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Germany, Kunsthalle Wien, Shedhalle and Les Urbaines, Switzerland.

Sunny Pfalzer is a member of the SALOON Berlin.

Maren Marzilger
Maren Marzilger is a gallerist and freelance editor living in Dresden since 2011. She studied Art History, French and German Literature at Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena and worked for a publishing house in Vietnam. After having worked for different galleries of contemporary art in Berlin and Dresden and a social cultural center in Dresden she is now the Managing Director at Kunstverein Meißen. Besides she writes articles, curates exhibitions and represents artists at international fairs. Together with Ursula Susanne Buchart she founded the SALOON Dresden in 2019.

Netzwerke

SALOON-Netzwerk

Europa
