Lutz was born in 1962 in Friedrichstadt and has spent his whole life in Dresden. He is talkative and can always be found with his radio at the Maltesers, where he uses it to provide the musical backdrop during the café. While demonstrating his latest model – which can also serve as a flashlight, among other things – he recounts his living biography. He has lived in four different apartments: in Stetzsch, in Löbtau, Gorbitz and now in Prohlis. In between, he was also homeless for a year, until he met a street worker on the street who found him his current apartment in Prohlis. He feels comfortable here. He has an apartment on the 3rd floor and when he feels like socializing, he comes to the Maltesers.
Yassin comes from Damascus and has lived in Leuben for two years. He has been in Germany for eight years and previously lived in Vogtland. There he met an elderly couple in church who have now become his German family: they celebrate birthdays together and visit each other regularly, even though he has now moved here to Dresden. “I miss living near them, but enjoy living in the city again: There are more jobs, more cultural opportunities and it’s easier to be mobile.” His dream is to eventually own a home where he can live with his extended family. Preferably somewhere outdoors, where it’s green and quiet.
