Kreuzkirche and area aorund – 800 years of the town church on the market square
On our tour of the city for blind and sighted people, we turn our attention to the Kreuzkirche. It stands where the first town church was built over 800 years ago. At that time, the town church was dedicated to St Nicholas. It was rededicated in the Middle Ages as a place of worship for the cross of Jesus Christ. Since then, there has been a Church of the Cross in the immediate vicinity of the Altmarkt. Construction of today’s Kreuzkirche began 260 years ago. We explore the exterior and interior of the church and its immediate surroundings.
Pleasingly, much is easy to touch. The wooden doors on the north side, the monument to the Kreuzchor choir and the memorial commemorating the peace and freedom movement of the people of Dresden before 1990 are particularly clearly designed and easy to reach. We go in search of traces together with our feet, hands, ears and open-hearted thoughts. Everyone is cordially invited to this city tour for the blind.

Meeting point: 17:00 at the Kreuzkirche in front of the main entrance
Distance: approx. 1 kilometre on foot
Duration: approx. 2 hours, including plenty of opportunities for sitting and toilet breaks
Finish: approx. 19:00 at the Altmarkt
