Leyla Rzayeva is an interdisciplinary artist living and working in the San Francisco Bay Area. By manipulating textiles, paint, ceramics and printmaking, Leyla presents the principal themes of communication, memory, family and movement to critique her relationship with colonialism and constructed self narrative. Her research and practice bring the personal knowledge of contemporary culture of West Asia and Central Asia to uncover the stories that have shaped her family and transnational history.
Leyla earned her BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art and a Professional Printer Certificate from Tamarind Institute, University of New Mexico. She is a current Artist-in-Residence at Kala Art Institute and has shown her work in Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Baltimore, Rehoboth, Joshua Tree and Berkeley, CA.
