since the start of the year, as part of the “Đức-Việt. German-Vietnamese Life in Saxony” project, we have conducted 13 interviews with contemporary witnesses who came to Saxony as Vietnamese contract workers during the GDR era, or who worked alongside them. Next year, we plan to publish these interviews in the form of a film and a magazine. In addition, we will present the interviewees’ stories in an exhibition.

However, back to the here and now: although we have mostly worked out of the spotlight so far, ‘Đức-Việt’ is already attracting significant attention. We are delighted to have received several requests for collaboration. Among other things, we are planning a collaboration with the State Agency for Palaces, Castles and Gardens of Saxony (Staatliche Schlösser, Burgen und Gärten Sachsen gGmbH) as part of the 2029 Saxon State Exhibition.

Next Wednesday, in collaboration with the Bautzner Straße Memorial in Dresden, we invite you to join us: to listen and ask questions, or to share your own stories and experiences. In the new series of events, ‘Storytelling Cafés at the Memorial’, contemporary witnesses will share stories from their lives and discuss them with guests. Topics will include, for example, ‘The Church in the GDR’, ‘Surveillance and Subversion’ and ‘Housing’.
