On 1 September, the event “Dresden is(s)t bunt” (Dresden eats/ is colourfully) took place once again on Hauptstraße. Beer benches and stalls lined up under the trees all the way down to the Golden Rider. Cultural initiatives, theatres, sports clubs, churches, the adult education centre and, last but not least, companies offered mostly homemade snacks and drinks.
When you focus on eating together, something magical happens: suddenly, conversation takes centre stage. Everyone moves from table to table, chatting. Sometimes it’s slow going because the crowds are so big. Sometimes you want to linger and sit down with an old lady at the Diakonie stand or leaf through flyers and marvel at the multitude of offers and initiatives in this city.

So it’s fitting that Kultur Aktiv is once again represented with its “Ansprechbar” project – just like last year on the (admittedly treeless and therefore shadeless) Albert Bridge, when the large district heating pipes had not yet been laid due to the collapse of the Carola Bridge. There’s something special at the “Ansprechbar” stand: coffee and cake – but made of paper!
The templates are prepared and printed by the artists. You can cut them out and colour them yourself. And then a coffee sweet is added to the cup.
The result is pieces of birthday cake with a handmade candle on top and pieces of cake in bright purple. Or fold-out paper waffles with ice cream. Cakes made of various layers with a chocolate coating.
All served on the finest Meissen paper porcelain, of course…
