As the men pose in front of Valery Poshtarov’s camera, father and son hold hands for the first time in years, sometimes decades. It is a powerful moment that is often accompanied by hesitation or even resistance. At the same time, the portraits from Bulgaria, the Caucasus, the Balkans and Italy provide a deep insight into the relationship between these family members.
Valery Poshtarov was born in Bulgaria in 1986. He completed his studies at Varna’s National High School of Arts and at the Sorbonne in Paris. He attracted attention early on with a nomination for the Cartier-Bresson Prize. In 2011, Valery founded the first online art gallery in Eastern Europe. His work has already been shown in Europe, Asia and Australia.
