“Dresden spricht…” Workshops, guided tours, writing and printing workshops under the motto “Language and writing. Dresden speaks many languages”

Communication with a difference

Get to know the everyday life of blind people in this workshop and test your sense of touch!

Who invented Braille – the so-called Braille for the blind? What does it look like, how does it feel? Is it still up to date? Many points, many questions that Marco Rademann can answer for us. Afterwards, we will certainly ‘see’ the world with different eyes.

Marco Rademann has been blind since early childhood. He went to school in Chemnitz and studied in Constance. After his second state examination in law, he moved back to Dresden. He lives with his family in Johannstadt and is involved in neighbourhood work.

Feel language – test your sense of touch

At the beginning of the 19th century, the Frenchman Louis Braille invented Braille, which is used internationally today. It consists of 64 characters. Up to six dots are punched onto paper in two vertical rows in different arrangements, which can then be felt. Because the so-called 6-dot cell only allows a limited number of different arrangements of dots, Braille does not use upper and lower case letters.

Diverse society – diverse communication

Our society is diverse – also in terms of language. By being open to other forms of communication, we show our interest in our fellow human beings and their needs. For many of us, verbal language is an indispensable means of communicating with others, obtaining information and sharing our own views. For people with hearing or visual impairments, spoken language is supplemented by other forms of communication.

‘Gemeinsam Mittendrin’ in the ’Kreativ.Raum.Börse’

The event takes place in cooperation with BÜLOWH Counselling and Meeting Centre. From 5 August to 12 September, they are organising the ‘Kreativ.Raum.Börse’ on Hauptstraße 42-44. Under the motto ‘Gemeinsam mittendrin 60+’, you can meet neighbours, listen, join in the conversation, create community, try out new things, think outside the box, drink coffee and much more. – for young and old – here in Neustadt.
