The many languages in the world can be classified into different language families. They are related to each other like members of a family. And almost every language also has its own script and alphabet.

Most European languages belong to the Germanic, Romance or Slavic language families.

The Germanic languages include Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Icelandic, German, Dutch, English and Yiddish.

Romance languages include Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Romanian.

Slavic languages include Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian, Polish, Czech, Slovak, Slovenian, Serbian, Croatian, Macedonian, Bulgarian and others.

Most European languages use the Latin alphabet. Some Slavic languages use the Cyrillic alphabet. Greek, Armenian, Georgian and Hebrew each use their own alphabet.
