After Königstein and Nebelschütz, we will visit Oschatz on 09 July 2022. This time, too, the focus is on “Fractures and Bridges of Industrial Culture in Saxony”. Oschatz was hit hard by the transformation after the collapse of the GDR economy. Many people emigrated as a result. But there are also new things and people who are helping to shape and develop Oschatz today. At “Kunst im Dialog” you don’t have to enter into conversation with paintings. But dialogue is of course at the forefront of our new project “Sachsen im Dialog“. How could it be otherwise?!
The focus is on the protagonist Günther Hunger, who runs Germany’s first railway postcard museum in the Oschatz railway station. Günther Hunger, formerly a journalist and photographer, knows seemingly endless anecdotes that he knows how to tell in an entertaining way. This postcard museum is like a little goldmine when it comes to pictures, zeitgeist and stories about the railway. And that brings us right back to Oschatz, where the “Wild Robert”, the narrow-gauge railway through the Döllnitz valley to Mügeln, stands like a mirror image for the breaks and bridges: After freight traffic had to be discontinued on this traditional route in 2001, the Döllnitzbahn has found a new focus with tourist traffic and school transport.
The dialogue walk will lead from the Railway Postcard Museum to the E-Werk Oschatz, the town’s former electricity plant, where the socio-cultural centre has also found a post-industrial use. Here, children, young people and adults of all ages have a contact and meeting space at their disposal. This place is home, starting and meeting point, dialogue and meeting place. On 9 July, starting at 7 pm, it will be the venue for the presentation of the film by Susanne Kontny (Leipzig) about Günther Hunger and the Railway Postcard Museum, followed by a discussion. Be curious about the film and the stories of contemporary witnesses present!
