Brochure
Between high-rise buildings and villas, between parks and gardens, on the asphalt of the streets and on the trampling paths through the neighbourhood, we were out and about and met an incredible number of people who are committed to shaping coexistence in the neighbourhood.
We wanted to know: Who are these people?
There were the lone warriors who organised a backyard party, large associations that initiate long-term projects and create entire neighbourhood houses, but also the small initiatives that would like to see more people join in and still do great things. We got to know people who are handing over the baton to younger people after many years of commitment. And we met young people who are starting projects full of enthusiasm. And even those who haven’t lived here that long are busy helping to shape things. From Café Halva to the Ukrainian sewing café group, you can discover exciting projects on both sides of the Elbe.

District walks
Only those who move can change their point of view or perspective – in space and in the mind! That’s exactly why we set off on foot through different districts of Dresden. Sometimes it can be a tour of the district’s history, other times we get to know people and their everyday lives on the spot or discover well-known and lesser-known places just around the corner. Let us surprise you!
The tours through the district end in a community garden, at neighbourhood initiatives or other public places that stand for “togetherness”. Here you can linger and chat and talk even more, because there are already …
… Conversations in the green
There are many meeting places, small groups, social and cultural institutions and many other places where community and commitment take place in and for the district! So we want to stop off at exactly these liveable and lovable fixed points in the neighbourhood to get to know the places better. Snacks and drinks will be provided, because coffee, cake, etc. are the best way to share stories, experiences, memories, hopes and expectations!
Workshop series “My Neighbourhood”
In all-day workshops, individual “city views” are created: on a base area (approx. A4 size), a personal “city object” is designed, put together, rearranged. The material basis is old packaging (tetra-paks, cans, etc.), which is redesigned according to the upcycling principle. The focus is always on one’s own neighbourhood and personal living environment. Do I feel good in my neighbourhood? If so, what is special about it? If not, what does my dream neighbourhood look like? So in the workshops you can deal intensively with topics from your own life and the other stories from the group.
And the best thing is: the finished houses, facades, squares etc. don’t just stay to themselves. The participants put theirs together into a common “city view” and present it at the end of the year as a central object at a public …

Here you can discover not only the “city view”, but also a selection of texts and pictures that take a look at Dresden’s neighbourhoods with all their people, initiatives and districts.

Nadine Wölk · workshop leader
“Do I know my neighbors? Ein, zwei, drei mit Namen. Da klingle ich auch, wenn ich beim Einkaufen etwas vergessen habe. Ob die anderen Nachbarn mich kennen? Keine Ahnung. But as far as I know myself, I’m always happy about a friendly hello. In this sense: hello dear neighbors!”
Nadine Wölk, born in 1979 in Thuringia, has lived and worked in Dresden for 20 years. She studied graphic design in Munich as well as painting and graphics. She works as a freelance graphic designer, artist and freelance lecturer.
A volcano of creativity and a quiet flow of concentrated work – Nadine has all this to offer not only to the participants of the workshops.
Moussa Mbarek · workshop leader
“In all the places I’ve lived in Dresden, unfortunately, I haven’t known my neighbors. If you weren’t born here, it’s hard to get into conversation with neighbors. Encounters are brief and everyone quickly closes the door. That was different in my old home.”
Moussa Mbarek, born in the Libyan Sahara, has lived in Dresden since 2015. Since then, he has worked as an art caster and is involved in the artistic field of migration work.
What you can do with you can do with screen printing! After initial scepticism, enthusiasm follows. The children and adults in Moussa’s workshops don’t want to stop.
Yulia Vishnichenko · workshop leader
Yulia was born in Kazakhstan and has lived in Dresden for years. Since her childhood, she has been very drawn to art. Her interest in history and the desire to create something with her hands inevitably led her to study fine arts. Since then she has worked mainly with children and young people.
Nazanin Zandi · workshop leader
Nazanin was born in Kerman (Iran) and grew up in Florence (Italy). She studied architecture in Paris and Dresden and has lived here since 1996. Since 1999 she has been working as a freelance painter, illustrator, curator, art course instructor and graphic designer. She has curated major exhibitions and exhibited her work internationally. Since childhood she wanted to be an artist, so she opened a studio in 2011 via detours. Since 2013, she has initiated and led numerous socio-political-cultural projects with refugees, migrants and Germans. She wants to promote social conversation through her art. Since 2016, she has been giving weekly creative courses throughout the city to break down prejudices and support democratic thinking. Her current area of work is biographical comics. She speaks seven languages.

“I grew up in Italy, in the middle of the forest in the western Alps. It’s beautiful there, but at that time there were no other children living nearby and even the village was only accessible by car. That’s probably why in the cities I lived in – Turin, Isfahan and Dresden – neighborhood networking was always very important to me. I love running into friends and acquaintances in the neighborhood and having a quick chat with the baker, the Späti owner and the café owner.”
Rosa taught German as a foreign language, supervised prospective refugee students at the TU Dresden, and was and is active in various art and cultural projects. She draws everywhere, really.
Ink, brush and pen are always on the woman. Rosa brings Dresden’s neighbourhoods to life with her very special illustrations.

“Neighbors – live and let live, I think. In the old days, you used to go around the place in a horse-drawn carriage. “I’m the new guy. Here’s my business card, please. ” Such rituals feel quite nice, but seem out of time. A friendly “Hallo, Moin, Tach” will do. Addressing and helping each other is nice. What I find unattractive is trying to tell your neighbor how he or she should do something.”
Rosa was born in Ueckermünde and has lived in Dresden for 30 years. She works as a freelance journalist, job application coach and language teacher.
Always on the go, always talking and always ready to put the interesting stories of our guests on paper.
Falk Goernert · moderation and documentation
“Neighbourhood, that’s the morning view from my window into the kitchen of the house opposite. 7 o’clock and again coffee is being made and taken out of the cupboards.“
Falk was born in Dresden and only left the city for his studies.
An art historian, he always has an eye for what is not revealed, not visible, and an open ear for what is between the lines. That’s what we appreciate about his sensitive snapshots in our workshops.
The experiences with the formats and districts are based on the findings and cooperation with the partners of recent years, including Dresdner Nachbarschaften – Damals, Heute, Morgen sowie Treffpunkt ostZONE. Erinnern und gestalten
